Elliptical and Weights for Tuesday

>> January 27, 2010

We went to a different gym today and I hopped on a new elliptical.  It was slower going for me due to the stride- it was very far apart.  {Almost like skiing}  I did 2 miles there followed by 20 minutes of weights {arms, legs, hips}.  It was a great workout and didn't take too much out of me.

Today's totals:

Miles: 2
Calories: 195

Salsa & the Elliptical

>> January 20, 2010

I've been slowly working back up to a longer workout. Tonight I went to the gym with my husband. I got on the elliptical for 35 minutes before the cardio Salsa class tonight. By the time class started I was more than warmed up. There were many moves I was familiar with from Zumba, and several that took a little practice to get. It was fun, but I think I'd rather take Zumba more. We'll see how my schedule works out.

Tonight's Stats:

Elliptical: Miles-2.47 Calories-254 Minutes-35
Cardio Salsa: Calories-211 Minutes-60

Totals:

Miles-2.47
Calories-465
Minutes-95

Cardio Boxing

>> January 19, 2010

I went to a Cardio boxing on Friday. That was a major workout! It was a great way to let out aggression too. What was more amazing to me was the calories burned! 650! Wow!

Cardio-boxing is a great way to condition the whole body because it builds muscle strength, endurance, balance, agility and coordination all at the same time.

Cardio-boxing has also been shown to promote well-being because it builds confidence and discipline. Most cardio-box programs consists of variable heart rate work and actual boxing techniques.

Quotes from Cardio-Boxing for Super Fitness by Gary Matthews

It was a lot of fun and I plan to keep doing it. I can't kick as much now that I'm getting further along. It's so amazing to think I'm half way through my pregnancy.

Stats for Friday:

Cardio Boxing Class: Calories-650 Minutes-60

Spinning Wednesday Night

>> January 14, 2010

So I took my first spin class in CO and it's been two months since I've been on a spin bike. All I can say today is ouch...my hiney!

The bikes are a little different from what I'm used to so it took a few minutes to feel comfortable. I have had some excellent spin teachers and some mediocre teachers, but the teacher we had on Wednesday night was the worst. We had a thick Hispanic accent, which in and of itself isn't so bad, but he also had a high pitched voice and I couldn't understand 90% of what he said screamed except, "Up, go go go go!". His music was pretty good and upbeat. My husband seemed to like the Big Butts song we spun too. LOL

This man was also highly overweight and stopped many times during class and shouted instructions to keep going. If I can do the whole class pregnant, I would hope my teacher would. It was interesting.

It was very hot in the class and by the time we left my face looked like this:

Guess whose supposed to teach Salsa tonight? I haven't decided if I'm going or not. I have a lot of projects going on.

Wednesdays stats:

Spin: Miles-15 Calories-550 Minutes-60

Yoga Love and Running

>> January 11, 2010

Got my favorite magazine in:

Even my teen is enjoying the articles in it. Hubby's jealous because he wants a running magazine for men. I also get Runner's World. Is there one specifically for men?

This morning Ben and I went to Yoga together. It was his first time. He liked it but he thinks of it only as stretching. I think differently. I was impressed with his flexibility.

Our teacher is quite pregnant, but can do yoga better than most of the class. Afterward she gave me some tips and advice on what I should and should not do when doing yoga, especially now that I'm in the 2nd trimester.

We are so going back. We both agreed our backs felt much better with the stretching and the sense of well-being was amazing afterward.

This evening, we went on a 2 mile run as a family. I love running. It felt so great!

Monday (today's) Stats:

Yoga: Calories-176 Minutes-60
Run: Miles-2 Calories-200 Minutes-35

Total:
Miles-2
Calories-376
Minutes-95

I'm in my second trimester of pregnancy and running- not as much as before I became pregnant, but I'm still enjoying a nice run. I'm on a great site called Mom Bloggers Club and in the group Running Mommies, a fellow pregnant runner wrote the following article. I appreciated the timing of it.

20/20/20 and Happy New Year

>> January 09, 2010

Well, I've been gone for over a month due to a long move across the country and horrible nausea from pregnancy. In spite of that fact, I did manage to run twice in December totaling 2 miles. All is not lost, though, I sure needed the extra energy I wasn't burning for that move.

I had intended on working out more once I got here, but the two runs I did do showed me my lungs weren't adjusted to the altitude yet. Hubby goes back to work Monday and I can officially start my new routine in Colorado, which I will start with Spin class first thing in the morning.

I'm now four months pregnant, wow that went fast! Today hubby and I went to the local gym to start spin class and after we got there and realized spin was full but there was another class, I went for it. To start out this new year with a BANG, I did 20/20/20 which is 20 minutes of step aerobics, 20 minutes of kick boxing with weights, 20 minutes of weights, abs and stretching. Wow. That was "glut" kicking. I'll be feeling it tomorrow for sure. It felt so good to be working out again, though. Yay!

Today's workout:

20/20/20: Calories-489 Minutes-55
