I haven't been to the community gym in a while as I've been going to another gym or running. I got some gym shorts that I tried out today. I thought I'd be cooler in shorts and sweat less...well I was a little cooler, but I did not sweat less. LOL

Running Quote
"The more I run, the more I want to run, and the more I live a life conditioned and influenced and fashioned by my running. And the more I run, the more certain I am that I am heading for my real goal: to become the person I am."
-George Sheehan, M.D.
Right on!
Summer in North Carolina
I have to admit the summer here in North Carolina hasn't been excruciatingly hot like it is in Texas, but it was today. I had a late start due to staying up WAY to late writing, but oh it was a productive night. After getting dressed in my running clothes, I checked the weather bug on the computer and it said it was 77 degrees outside. Wonderful! I can still run!
About half way into the run I was really feeling the heat. It was hard to push through it, but I did. I took two stops as I passed the community center and got some water. My new music kept me motivated and so did the memory of a conversation I had with a girl at Spinning class. She said that spinning uses the same muscles as running and has improved her run time drastically.
I made it home and ran 3 miles in 38 minutes! My best time yet!! Wonder what it would have been had I gone earlier? I then looked at the temperature on the weather bug. 90 degrees! I felt that! I was red for over an hour. Whew!
Good News: I lost another pound! Breaking through that plateau! I know that spinning and the new weight routine have really helped!
Today's Stats:

Sweet Karma
It feels so good to have lost so much weight. Let me tell you a true story of what goes around comes around (Karma).
Two years ago we had horrendous landlords. They went through a property managing agency so they could pretend they were not the owners. They lived next door. He was pretty cool. She, on the other hand, was a nightmare. She had a pretty nice figure and was pretty and used it to her advantage. She would come over and flirt with my husband while he was out working on the car or pretty much anytime he was outside. Sometimes she would come over and talk to him for half an hour or more. I put a stop to that very quickly. My sweet husband is very polite and doesn't always know how to get rid of someone like her. We have tons of other stories like their drunken parties, etc. but it's irrelevant to this particular story.
We moved out right before my husband deployed for 15 months and they kept our entire deposit with ridiculous reasons. We went to a lawyer and he said there was no case on their side- we would win it all hands down. Problem was, hubby left and I was too overwhelmed and tired to pursue it. We called it a loss and moved on. I dreaded ever seeing her in the store locally. I was too angry with her.
Two years later, I had completely forgotten the incident and the neighbor. It was the day I got my hair done last month. I was dressed up, feeling great when I ran to the commissary for a few groceries. In line ahead of me was a woman who was taking forever to pay. Her kids were running around impatiently. I took the opportunity to grab a bottled water and come back. She was still there. I decided then to get a good look at her. I gasped quietly as I realized it was HER! She didn't look the same, though. The 40+ pounds I had lost in that time frame she gained! That wasn't all though, she looked old! Her face was wrinkled and haggard looking. She looked at least ten years older than she used to.
I worried that she would recognize me, so I turned to the lady behind me and struck up a conversation. She was more than happy to share all about how much money she saved by couponing. Before I knew it, my ex-neighbor interrupted us and apologized profusely for taking so long. She looked me square in the eyes and there was not even a glimmer of recognition. I smiled back and said it was fine. She left right after.
That night I was thrilled that I lost that much weight that someone from two years ago did not recognize me.
The story doesn't stop here.
Yesterday I decided to go to the gym at night instead of the morning. I put on my new lavender shirt and my usual black workout pants. I was feeling good about myself. Ben, the kids and I headed to the gym. Remember, this is the gym that you have to be a member of the community to go to OR you can go with a friend who lives in the community. As we pull up I looked to see who was on the elliptical I like to use and screamed out that it was our ex-neighbor!! Great. Hubby reminded me that she didn't recognize me last time, but I knew she would remember HIM and if there were any doubts in her mind, counting my kids would give me away. Oh well, she's on my territory. What do I have to fear?
We came in and I hopped on the elliptical and away I went. She knew then exactly who I was. I was ready for any confrontation, but she said nothing. She watched my husband almost the whole time with an occasional unfriendly glance at me.
Do you know how good it felt to be the skinniest one in the gym that night? My enemy, of her own making, was not as happy about that as I was. Oh, it felt good. Grant it, I've never wished ill upon her, but it felt good all the same. :)
As for today, I went to spinning class again. I love this teacher! She kicks our behinds and then goes for the thighs too. It's awesome!!! She has a great choice of motivating music and we kick up the heat at our own levels. Since it's at a different gym with a huge weight room I did an hours worth of weights that I don't normally do to change things up.
Here are the workout stats from the last two days:

Spinning Class Last Friday
Friday's spin classes was no where near the intensity the first class was. We're going to make an effort to make it to the first girl's class from now on.
Here are Friday's stats:
Spinning Class: Calories-450 Minutes-40 (Miles- no clue! Millions? I'm going to say 6 since I do at least that in half an hour.) *edited later when I had a better clue 15 miles
Weights: Calories-389 Minutes-60
Totals:
Miles: 15
Calories: 839
Minutes: 120
I'm getting all kinds of comments that I'm losing more weight or melting away. While the scale is only slowly moving I know the inches are melting away.
Here is a picture of me and hubby on Friday before our date:

Still Going Strong
My honey has the truck today - no problem- I just RAN to and from the gym today! I love that I have learned the power of my own two legs. It gives me so much freedom!
I am so sore from yesterday. I think I worked out every muscle in my body! I had to stretch to keep moving. I am still working on those push ups for Julyathon. So far, I can do 3 REAL push ups and 45 in a row women's push ups. All you gals who can whip out 50 real push ups- you have my props! They are tough! I'm coming from behind though...I'm determined to do it!

Tuesday's Spin Class
I had no idea how fun and intense a spinning class is!
Some notes of interest on Spinning class:
Speaking of sweat...one of the guys next to me made a serious puddle of sweat all around his bike. I kept looking to see if he spilled his water bottle, but just looking at his arms and head was answer enough for me. I had to look away or I thought I was going to barf.
Seriously, guys...some sweat on men is hot. Women tend to like that sort of thing. But, dripping puddles of sweat...NOT HOT!
After class, we went to the huge weight room andbusted 'er', toned our butts, arms, legs, and tummies.
T and I were hungry after such a workout so in lieu of lunch we went and had a protein shake at the "Shake bar". While we were laughing and joking a guy came up and starting flirting with us. He used lines I honestly hadn't hear in over ten years!
"How was your workout?"
"Do you come to this gym often?"
He asked us quite a few questions. I think we were both so confused as to WHY this man was talking to us. Can't he just read on our faces that we have 10 kids between the two of us? ROFL That would have sent him running!!! Not to mention we're both happily married with bright and shiny wedding rings.
We have decided that this is a new part of our weekly routine- at least one spin class. They also offer other classes there: Tai chi, yoga, aerobics, etc. That would be fun!!! And just so you know... this decision is NOT based on the guy at the protein shake bar.(grin)

Some notes of interest on Spinning class:
- That seat doesn't feel so good on the butt bones; it definitely takes some getting used to.
- Remember to bring the water bottle INTO the gym. It does no good sitting in the car warming up! Next time, I'll remember.
- I also will bring a TOWEL next time because my sweat made the handles a little hard to grip when we were standing and jumping!
- Wow, it works the arms too!

Started the Week out Right!
I was up late last night and really had a hard time dragging myself out of bed. I made it to the gym, though...still putting on my socks and shoes! I started on the bike until I got my blood pumping. Then I did the elliptical, .25 on the treadmill and 30 minutes of weights. Man, I feel great! It's amazing how fast you can burn 1000+ calories and how easy it seems sometimes! :)
Tomorrow I'm going to try the spinning class they have on post! Yay!

Fabulous Friday
This week I haven't had the most positive attitude towards working out. Because (I think) of this, it made it harder to work out and I was more tired during it. Today I started out with a positive attitude and did much better.
The gym was quiet today. I don't know if everyone quit their summer work out resolutions or if they're all on vacation. Anyway, we had the gym to ourselves until the Mohawk dudes came, but there were just two so it was still quiet.
Today's stats:
Elliptical: Miles-3.32 Calories-417 Minutes-33

Wednesday- Did you lose weight?
I tried out my NEW (to me) elliptical yesterday! I didn't keep track of anything so I'm not counting that.
Today, despite starting out my morning dragging, I pushed myself hard and did level 9 for 45 minutes on the elliptical! It was random levels up to level 23. I worked hard!
Today's stats:
Elliptical: Miles-5 Calories-657 Minutes-46
While getting adjusted today my chiropractor asked me if I lost weight? Kind of made me wonder where he's been all this time? (We've been seeing him 2 years now...LOL)

Friday Burned off the Carrot Cake
I had a lovely meal with friends last night which included a delicious carrot cake! I had to burn it off today. I think I did? :)
Today the gym had a group of guys today who were not military. I'm not sure how they got in or who they were? One of them had half a Mohawk. The end of his head had the Mohawk "chunk"? with a braid. Fancy Schmancy! Sadly, his head and the annoying MJ coverage were some of the highlights of the scenery at the gym. ROFL Thank goodness K came to entertain me some. :)
