You can't lose weight without exercise, but why should your legs suffer for what your mouth has done...Why don't you drag your lips around the block a couple of times?

Low Carb for me!
I have been weighing myself everyday, and I have been steadily re-gaining the weight I lost with my flu... So, I am going to nip this in the bud and start getting serious. I can lose weight with diet change and a few years ago after I had my son, I lost my pregnancy weight by following a low-carb diet. So here I am again, doing it. I started it in May and by August I had lost 45 pounds, just by diet and no exercising. I am going to exercise this go around because I know the importance of it, and how good it makes you feel. What I am not looking forward to is the "detox" my body will be going through the next couple of days. I know it is only a short few days that this happens, but it is still not fun, and I get grumpy! lol. I also want to take up yoga-ish stretching. I think for an hour in the afternoon I can turn off the tv, and back away from my computer, then hit the carpet for some quiet, much needed stretching.
Today my weight is 223.6
Bust 45"
Waist 44"
Hips 47"
My goals are weight 150-160
Bust 39"
Waist 29"ish
Hips 39"
My goal measurements are when I was 18, but I dont know how much I weighed, I think about 130? Anyway, that is my ultimate goal list right now!

Today's Stats

I have been listening to The Secret by Rhonda Byrne on audio while working out and sometimes while on the computer. It is right on and I understand many of the concepts of the Law of Attraction just from the other book I read "Feelings Buried Alive Never Die" by Karol Truman. It is fascinating! I decided to do the additional things I've learned from the secret regarding weight loss, including putting my goal weight on the scale and entering it as my weight in the bike, elliptical, etc. I'm heading to the store today to make my visualization chart. :)
As for the gym stats:

Inspiration!!!
Shi,
Just wanted to say you are an inspiration! I am so proud of you that you made it and went from couch to 5k! You look amazing and I am just overjoyed for you. Now that all the sickness is out, I am getting back on track. I just hope that I have the same, or even half the drive you have to get healthy! Great Job!
During my flu I did lose about 10 pounds. If I am careful, I will be able to keep it off and then some. I just have to make an effort and I will be ok. I did drop 14 pounds but 4 pounds liked me and came back!
Sometimes I think if I just had 4-5 more flu's... LOL I am kidding.. or am I??!!??

HERE IS WHERE THE TRACK IS IN AMERICAN SAMOA
This is just part of the track, the rest will be on my personal blog along with the view I look at while walking. First I want to say how excited I am for Shiloah....what an inspiration she is to me. So today Vance and I went walking. We walked and jogged, walked and jogged. We did this for 3 miles. I lost 2.6 pounds doing this. I have lost a total of 17 pounds....and that vasilates a few pounds here and there. It has taken me 10 months to lose that, I have lost and gained, lost and gained but for the last 4 weeks I have been holding steady with a 16 pound loss. I was bad with the food yesterday so I had to loss the pound I had gained. Oh well....I have lost a whole person this year but for some reason I keep finding that person.
Monday Light (Recovery)
Last week was so busy and I'm recouping from the run and the busy week. This week has already started out busy with two appointments aside from the gym. I went light today, but I'm glad I did something. I really need the endorphins from the exercise.

5 K

I did it girls----My first 5K! I did it and got a t-shirt! ;) It started out rainy and it was a little chilly, but I warmed up quickly and it quit raining soon into the run.
I have been practicing on the treadmill and flat tracks. This sucker was full of intense hills. WOW. Even with the hills and stopping to walk here and there, I still did the same time as what I do on the treadmill! My friend gave me a few songs to listen too and she's right, this one Linkin Park song kept me going the last part of the race. A little angry music is quite motivating! LOL
My friends came, and of course smoked me, but I was totally okay with it. I just ran my first 3 miles straight last week for crying out loud! My husband did it too and won 2nd place in his age group. He's the man! :)
I was a little nervous about my shins, but I bought some pink sports medical tape and taped up my shins. I found some great instructions on the taping here.
After the 5K, Cailynn (13) and Benjamin (10) ran in the one mile fun run! They had so much fun they can't wait to do another one and practice. Cailynn's goal is to do a 5K with Ben and I.
Running a race, even if I was slower than molasses was exhilarating and extremely motivating! I want to be like the skinny first place ladies! I can do it!

Not by the Pain of my Shinny Shin-Shins

Shin Splint Info
I am reviewing the website I found on information regarding shin splints. The following would be the reason I am having them. Too much too soon. My cardio can handle it, but my legs can't YET.
More here
"Increasing the intensity or duration of your workouts. Overuse syndrome typically occurs when someone does too much and continually strains the muscles of the lower leg. Increasing your distance or intensity by more than 10% per week would make you a prime candidate for shin splints—especially if you don't cross train to diversity your program."

Not out of the water and today's stats
I thought I was out of the water with the shin splints. No such luck, baby! I ran 8 miles last week in 3 days. By Sunday I was so sore, but by Sunday night I thought I could handle running today. Nope. I walked my warm up 1/4 mile and then ran 1/4 mile and stopped just short of tears. (I didn't want to freak out the other woman there.) I had to stretch for another 5 or so minutes and could barely feel my left leg the pain was so bad. I refused to not work out so I went back to my old standby. I burned off 900 calories too. :) I couldn't do my "full" workout because we had a Valentine homeschool party to go to down South about an hour. Anything is better than nothing. My shins are still killing me. It is so frustrating! The 5K run is this weekend.

Having So Much Fun!
It is exhilarating to workout, lose weight, and find friends who are motivated and share a common goal to meet you for a workout everyday! I'm loving it! I have so many friends who are hard work-out women and it has been a blast meeting at the gym. We've recently talked about having an ipod switch for our next workout. That would be fun!
Anyway, today I met up with a friend and hubby came along to the gym. My kids ran a mile with their friends and then Cailynn (13) ran another mile later.
I wasn't planning to run very much today since every single muscle in my body is super duper sore!! I did a little more than planned. I ran a full mile without stopping, until my shoe came untied. Once you stop it is hard to get going again so I ran intervals for the last bit.
Here are my stats:
Treadmill: Miles- 2.01 Calories- 202 Minutes- 33
Arc Trainer: Miles-1.18 Calories-213 Minutes-20
Totals:
Miles: 3.19

My January in review.
I lost 3.8 pounds!
I also lost 9"!!!!!
*doing a crazy girl dance*
Have I shared that I am doing a 10K in Spokane in May? If not, I am. I forget what I put on here versus my own blog. (Anything of privacy (weigh in's, IVF, school drama) is open to friends and family only- register, and send me a note and I'll add you.)
I'm quite excited and now Joe is gonna do it too- I'm making him if you take his status on FB verbatim. My friend Sue and Nathan are doing it too. Nathan & Sue are walking it.
I didn't meet my goals for January, but I have a new one.
FEB: Lose 7 pounds, lose 5", be able to run for 10 minutes non-stop.

Been Awhile....
Since I wrote on here. Thought I would share some things we've been doing.
Curtis and I started working out together and trying to diet. Mostly we are watching portion control, since I'm having an idiot attack and cannot figure out how to count calories. We've been going for one month. Here's our stats:
Curtis: was 260, now 250
Dawn: was 164, now 160
I'm trying to understand that I'm still breastfeeding and that I'm a woman, and women just do not loose weight like men. I have yet to take measurements of us, since I can't find our tape measure. Yet another side effect of having all these kids: things grow legs and walk off (at least they appear to be getting good exercise).
We are getting up at 6-6:30 to work out. Curtis has been really good about getting breakfast and eating three meals a day, as he used to skip quite a few meals and then binge at night. These are the things we are doing for exercise:
Walk Away the Pounds, 3 miles and on short days the 2 mile video. She does some rubber band exercises in the video as well for arms and abs. 2 times a week.
Tai Chi. Good gravy, has anyone done this? The workout is 90 minutes long and my mantra for this: "no jelly legs, no jelly legs". 1 time a week.
Interval training: Curtis had a great idea for this, since the one I was trying to do left you crippled for a week. Get a deck of cards. Black number cards are the number of push ups. Red number cards are sit ups. Black face cards were 15 of arm exercises: circles, weight lifting, rubber band exercises. Red face cards were 15 of leg exercises: jumping jacks, water hydrants, leg lifts. I am proud to say that I have been able to do all the push ups. 6 months ago, I could only do 1-3. 2 times a week.
I've noticed I'm a lot hungrier, but we've been better about getting to bed at a normal time and getting more rest. I've tried to get back to taking vitamins on a normal basis, even got some for Curtis now too, and we are all taking fish oil, flax seed and magnesium. Portion control has been hard to do but my mom got us some 5x7 inch plates and you can't really fill those up like 12 inch plates, which is a good thing. So, more to follow.
SHiloah, you are looking wonderful!! You go with your bad self! ;)
