My Goals & Stuff.

So, I've got my plan, and it's working.

I have another doctor's appt on the 28th, and I have a baseline I need to meet. I'm getting there, and that excites me!!

This morning I had friends over for a Wii party of exercise! We start at 7:30 and finished at 11. It was a lot of fun. We had a BLAST! the best thing, everyone was cheering on everyone else, and we even exercised while it wasn't our turn.

My bit of excitement is that Wii Fit gave me the fit age of 21!!! We've had this game since summer, and I've never been below 30, so I was stoked!!!

My back is much better, and i'm getting my exercise grove on.

Goals for 2009:
1. Get Healthy!
a. manage my blood pressure
b. lose 20% of my body.
c. keep a journal/scrapbook
2. Be family active!
a. plan more active family activities.
b. limit tv
3. Be positive!

Not Waiting For New Year's....

I am hitting the gym hard NOW, not in 3 days. Why not start at the beginning of the week, instead of the beginning of the year? So these are my stats for today.

Walked the dogs - 2 miles
Walked to and from the gym - 1 mile
Eliptical - 3.05 miles
Lifted Weights - 15 minutes

Total - 7 miles
(and believe me, I'm feeling it, but in a good way)

Now if I can just stay away from Brownies, I might be able to meet my goals for 2009!

A new beginning - and a new tool

Hi ladies,

Well, the new year isn't here yet but it's not too soon to start over is it? I have been doing terribly with my eating habits and exercise. Actually to be fair I shouldn't even mention exercise since its been non-existent! But it's a new day!

I found a really cool app for my ipod that helps me to track my daily food values, my weight, waist size, water intake, etc. It's called ishape. It cost me 99 cents (New Years sale), and its worth every penny.

According to it's calculations for me, I can eat 1239 calories a day (more if I exercise), and to reach my goal weight it should take 11 weeks - losing 2 pounds per week. Updating my food intake at every meal keeps me conscious of what I am eating, and if I stay under my daily goal, I get a nice green checkmark to cheer me on. Otherwise it's a red x. Boo hoo. So I started yesterday. I was actually able to eat almost 1800 calories because I got on my treadmill and jogged.

So here are my stats:
Current weight: 164lbs
Goal weight: 140lbs
Waist: 35 inches
BMI: 25.7
Countdown to reaching goal: 10 weeks, 6 days

Unfortunately yesterday I earned the big red x, for going over about the size of a banana in my caloric intake. However, it's a LOT better than I had been doing, so I am feeling good about it. :) Hopefully today will be even better.

Hugs to you all. Talk soon!
Rachel (spaceofgrace)

Been awhile...

>> December 16, 2008

I've been dealing with some stuff lately. Health concerns, work (school) drama, and more health concerns. But there was some exciting news in the mix (can't share till after the first of the year though.)

I've been on a crazy swirl with the weight loss, I got so busy that I put it by the wayside. A doc appt stressed me out, and the follow up made me do a lot of research (in all my spare time, rolling eyes here) and get very, very serious.

I have another appt tomorrow- getting a sub for the afternoon- and we'll see what happens. I need to get a handle on this, and maybe a scare is what I need... maybe, just maybe I can get some answers from Montana Doc #2, before I see Doc #3....

Sorry to be vague, but I'm not totally ready to whole voice it yet.

Update with Stats

If you haven't already figured it out by my absence, my wonderful husband is home from Iraq! :) My friend, whom I hired to take photos, took almost 300 pictures of the homecoming and I will post them as soon as she gets them to me.

Saturday I wasn't feeling too good, but I did a short workout in the morning:

Elliptical: Miles- 6.25 Calories- 677 Minutes- 50

The rest of the day I cleaned house with friends. I felt so sick all day. I thought it was nerves. I forced myself to drink a pea protein shake with rice milk. That was all I had to "eat" all day. By night I drove to my friend Heidi's (She is on here too.) to get a homeopathic remedy. I was feverish by that point and not sure how I made it there and back...oh my stomach hurt.

By Sunday morning, I was feeling noticeably better- thank goodness! I dressed up in my skinny black shirt, did my hair and make-up, and wore my new black boots. I dressed the kids all in black (for good photos sake) and added a little blush to their cheeks.

When all the soldiers marched in from off the plane and were standing at attention, the kids found Ben and caught his eye so he knew where to find us. He came and gave them hugs and kept asking the kids where I was! He didn't recognize me! He said I looked like a teenager! Haaaa! Can you imagine the thrill?

I was up on a platform and was leaning down to hug my 6'1 hubby (I'm 5'1) and he pulled me off and held me! It was so fun and the best homecoming! I can't wait for the pictures!

I was still suffering from a slight stomach flu the rest of Sunday. We had 6 hours to go home and have brunch with the kids and have some time watching a movie and talking. Then my friend came over to watch the kids for two nights and we took off. I only ate dinner that night- probably about 800 calories worth.

By Monday morning, he had to go in to work to in-process for a couple of hours. I had him drop me off a the closest gym on post so I could keep up my work-outs and utilize the time he was away.

I like this gym a lot. It is the one with the track and tennis courts we go to during the week. There are TV's on every piece of gym equipment! And the weight room has EVERYTHING.

I was so sick still and had to stop my workouts every 30 minutes to run to the restroom. TMI, I know. LOL Here are my stats:

Monday, December 15, 2008

Elliptical: Miles-2.69 Calories-289 Minutes- 35
Stationary Bike: Miles-4.53 Calories-125 Minutes-30
Elliptical: (Tried again)Miles- 2.30 Calories-249 Minutes-30
Weights: Calories- 103 Minutes- 15
(Thighs- inner and outer, Row machine for arms, chest)

Totals:

Miles: 9.52
Calories: 766
Minutes: 110

Today I have still felt ill. Ben had to go in to work again for two hours so I did a small workout. I didn't eat as much today as I did yesterday. I also didn't work out as much. I hope I am feeling better by tomorrow. I dislike being ill.

About the Shoes:

And my shoes have logged in a lot of miles. I'm getting a new pair when hubby comes home. He needs a new pair too. He runs almost everyday with the military. I've calculated that I've logged over 300 miles in these shoes. The average running shoe starts wearing out between 300-400 miles. Mine have about had it.

Did I mention my kids are running a mile a day several times a week? My older two girls need a pair of running shoes each. They really LOVE running. I did too when I was a young girl (only we did two miles). I grew up in a physically fit family and hope to pass those habits on to my children. All of us are still active girls. I was the only one having weight issues, but seven kids didn't have anything to do with that, right? ROFLMBO!

Two Weigh Loss Book Reviews

Shrink Your Female Fat Zones: Lose Pounds and Inches--Fast!--From Your Belly, Hips, Thighs, and More (Paperback) By Denise Austin

She has a lot of great tips, but what I liked the most is her section on dieting because she has meals and a shopping list! It made it easier for me to get an idea of what to eat and I took the book with me to the grocery store to reference.

Prevention's Shortcuts to Big Weight Loss: Slim Your Belly, Buns, and Thighs--And Get Fit Twice as Fast (Paperback) By Chris Freytag

I really enjoyed reading this book. She has a lot of great advice. I especially like the 10 minute work outs with pictures and explicit instructions.

I have felt and seen a difference and she keeps me motivated. She looks great for having 3 kids!

Her ideas for getting through a plateau were just what I needed.

I'm drenched! Someone opened the window and it is SUPER humid outside! It made it hotter in there, not cooler!

In other gyms news:

The other night we had a woman giving birth to the treadmill- or at least she sounded like it! She was practically screaming! We were all looking at each other like WTH?

And my Birthday ring was stolen. That same night I accidentally left it on the top of the arm weight machine because it was pinching my finger while I was lifting. The staff watched the camera video with me and we watched a woman steal it the next morning. I gave her a day to return it, but she hasn't so I'm filing a police report.

And a Treat:

My friend that I haven't seen in about 3 weeks was so shocked at my weight loss. She totally made my day!!! I enjoyed some time away tonight and went shopping at Target. I love the Choxie brand chocolate candies that Target sells. I decided to take a peek at this section and was ecstatic to see that they are thinking of the girls who want to watch what they eat! They had a three pack of assorted flavored candy bars that were small and were 100 calories each! I bought this pack and indulged in one treat tonight. It was the chocolate orange almond bar. It was perfect size and oh so decadent! Not too much and not too little. I'm saving the others to spread throughout the week and knowing that they are only 100 calories a piece is a nice TREAT! :)

Hopefully the rain will stop so we can run tomorrow and play tennis again. :)

So I have officially decided....

That I am going to take care of myself and so things that are good for me. I am finally realizing to the point of doing, that I need to get my rear up and be active. I had a bad night, last night and it was a breaking point for me. I am not too sure how I got there, but I think it has been building. Anyway, this morning I woke and told myself that I am worth it, and I need to take care of myself, so I jumped on the treadmill for 30 minutes. I plan to get on there at least for another 30 a little later on. It is time that I change, so that i am out of this rut and stop breaking myself, and my husband down.

Shiloah, I have to say, your dedication is such a motivator. You are a great inspiration. Thanks for this blog!!!

I have been gone for a while. Most of you know that my husbands mother passed away so we had to go to Texas. The hardest part about traveling is the fast foods so tempting and available. I am here to report that I lost one pound and probably would have lost more but instead of diet Cherry Limeades from Sonic, I had the real thing. When I lived there I would drink diet but since I am in Samoa, I splurged. I also had a blizzard twice instead of dinner. Then I weighed myself the week-end before we left and I had lost 3 pounds but.........since we don't get donuts (good ones) here in Samoa, I had donuts twice that week-end, kinda blew the 3 pounds down to 1. Oh well.....one pound loss traveling for 2 and 1/2 weeks is not bad. Today is a new week, a new start back on the routine. I really think I can do this.

Blasting Through the Plateau

I've been on the weight loss plateau for too long. Last week I had enough. Yeah, I can burn a lot of calories and yeah, I'm losing inches, but I want the pounds gone too. Last week's changes have helped so this week should be good too! It better be because this weekend is the one I've been waiting for for 15 months!

The changes I made:

*Cut out the wheat (again)
*Limited the sugar
*Lowered the calories to 1500- got kind of sloppy for a while cause I knew I burned so much off.
*Changed my routine and added new stuff:

Added running on a track, added more stretching, and drank water when hungry. I've gotten up and moving more to burn those extra calories. And guess what? It paid off!

I lost another POUND!
Bringing me to 154~

Wish me luck on losing 5 more! :) Check back in tonight for today's workout stats. I've already gone running with the kids and we played tennis.

Another long day...we went to the chiropractor and for the first time in a while I wasn't too out of place! (We go once a week.)
